To Interview or Not To Interview.

Hi Reader,

Interviewing with a college admissions office gives students the opportunity to talk to someone who knows the school and ask questions about what life at that particular school is really like. Whether they interview with an admissions counselor, alum, or current student, interviews are a student's golden ticket to ask their questions in an intimate setting.

Interviewing offers students a chance to provide context for what they share in their applications. Whether virtual or in person, interviews allow students to:

  • Share what they love to do and what excites them
  • Highlight the ways they have impacted those around them
  • Tell their unique story and perspectives
  • Ask questions about particular majors or programs that interest them
  • Learn more about what makes that particular college unique
  • Understand what it might be like to be a student there

For some schools, interviews are part of the evaluation process and an opportunity for students to demonstrate their interest in attending. Still, most schools offer interviews so students can make a more educated decision about whether the school will be a good fit for them.

Interviewing can be overwhelming for some students, but we are here to help. Book a one-hour interview prep session with us, and we will help your child prepare for their upcoming interviews. Use this special link to save 10% off our interview prep package!

Hi Reader, Fall is in the air. That means apple picking, apple cider donuts, football, and the beginning ‒ or ending ‒ of the college admissions process for our juniors and seniors. Parents of freshmen and sophomores: You can breathe; your children still have time to dive into their "official" search and other parts of the admissions process. Yet, one piece of advice we will share is that engagement is the key. Have your child start thinking about who they are, how they want to show up in the...

Hi Reader, Do you remember those annoying little red buttons that said "Easy" that Staples sold several years ago? You know, the ones we thought were cute at first but then wanted to throw down the garbage disposal because our kids pushed it incessantly, thinking it was hysterical to see us lose our minds as we rushed to get dinner? Yup. Well, I could use one now, but I would sell them in packs: one button would say, "That was easy," and the other, "That was hard, but you did it! Go...

Hi Reader, I've been an empty nester for three weeks now. Week 1: I wandered aimlessly around the house, unsure of what to do with myself. Week 2: I filled my schedule with students, keeping every moment busy. Week 3: I nested. I cleaned out the mudroom, the kitchen junk drawer, and the infamous "water bottle" cabinet full of mismatched bottles. I even tackled the junk food drawer—no more half-eaten bags of chips. Feeling inspired, I cleaned up my inbox, reaching zero! I returned emails,...
