Summer College Visit Days

Summer College Visit Days

Hi Reader,

While you may hear advice not to visit schools over the summer, it is sometimes the only time families can visit. Lucky for you, many schools offer "special campus preview days" over the summer that provide students with more insight into campus life than a tour and information session during the school year might.

Remember, we are highlighting just a tiny fraction of colleges; let us know what schools you want us to follow, and we will continue adding new updates in the coming days.

Case Western Reserve University is offering several preview days throughout the summer.

Drew University, in Madison, NJ, offers a look into specific academic programs throughout the summer.

Visit Simmons College on July 12th to participate in essay writing and interview workshops, hear from current Simmons students, and take a campus tour; register here for the Simmons College Campus summer days.

Spend a full day exploring Penn State, learning about academic programs, touring the college, and meeting with admissions officers and other staff members: Penn State summer days.

WashU in-person and virtual tours this summer

Plan Ahead:

Spend the morning at Bryant College's Explore Bryant 2024 on August 9th

Reminders from last week:

Early Decision Summer Programs at Northeastern

Hobart William Smith Open House July 20th

Syracuse University Orange Preview Days: July 19th, 22nd, or August 2nd and 9th.

Davidson College Join the Davidson admission team for a workshop series to help students navigate their college search and application journey. Sessions held July 9th - August 1

Bentley College - Tip Tuesday Join their admissions team for tips about the college search process.

This week, we highlight the University of Georgia's Double Dawgs program.

Have you heard of 4 + 1 programs? Many schools offer undergraduate students the opportunity to enroll in a Master's program while enrolled in their undergraduate programs. The University of Georgia's Double Dawgs program was created to give ambitious and motivated students a competitive advantage in today's knowledge economy. By earning both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in five years or less, students can save time and money while positioning themselves for success after graduation.

Did you know that a few schools allow you to enroll in one school and take classes at another? Have you heard of the Five College Consortium or the Claremont Colleges?

Yours in organization,

Eydie Balsam

Hi Reader, Fall is in the air. That means apple picking, apple cider donuts, football, and the beginning ‒ or ending ‒ of the college admissions process for our juniors and seniors. Parents of freshmen and sophomores: You can breathe; your children still have time to dive into their "official" search and other parts of the admissions process. Yet, one piece of advice we will share is that engagement is the key. Have your child start thinking about who they are, how they want to show up in the...

Hi Reader, Do you remember those annoying little red buttons that said "Easy" that Staples sold several years ago? You know, the ones we thought were cute at first but then wanted to throw down the garbage disposal because our kids pushed it incessantly, thinking it was hysterical to see us lose our minds as we rushed to get dinner? Yup. Well, I could use one now, but I would sell them in packs: one button would say, "That was easy," and the other, "That was hard, but you did it! Go...

Hi Reader, I've been an empty nester for three weeks now. Week 1: I wandered aimlessly around the house, unsure of what to do with myself. Week 2: I filled my schedule with students, keeping every moment busy. Week 3: I nested. I cleaned out the mudroom, the kitchen junk drawer, and the infamous "water bottle" cabinet full of mismatched bottles. I even tackled the junk food drawer—no more half-eaten bags of chips. Feeling inspired, I cleaned up my inbox, reaching zero! I returned emails,...
